Midwifery Services: History of the project

2010: Founding of the Born in the Point collective, demanding that a birthing centre and midwife services be set up in Point St. Charles. 1753 community members sign in support of a birthing centre.

June 2011: The Clinic’s Annual General Assembly vote in support of Born in the Point’s project.

November 2013: Application to Agence de la santé et des services sociaux de Montréal for midwife services and a birthing centre.

21 February 2014: Administrations of the CSSS Sud-Ouest Verdun and the CSSS Dorval-Lachine-Lasalle support Clinic to hire someone for the project.

January 2015: The Clinic secures MSSS funding and hires someone (May 2015) to carry out a feasibility study.  

August 2015: Support from the two regional CIUSS.

February 2016: Submission of feasibility study on setting up midwife services and a birthing centre in Point St. Charles.

February 2017: Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS) recognizes the project.

August 2017: Funding agreement to hire a midwife services coordinator to set up the services and a birthing centre.
