The Clinic supports Joyce’s Principle: Continuing the Struggle for Equity and Respect

The Pointe-Saint-Charles Community Clinic is marking truth and reconciliation week and the anniversary of Joyce Echaquan’s death by announcing our endorsement of the Council of the Atikamekw of Manawan’s call to action and our unwavering support for the fight for equity.

Joyce’s Principle aims to guarantee to all Indigenous people the right of equitable access, without any discrimination, to all social and health services, as well as the right to enjoy the best possible physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.

Accessibility for all, respect for human dignity, respect for self-determination, equity, solidarity and social justice are part of our Clinic’s DNA. We are committed to applying, at our level, the different measures proposed; for example, sensitization and education of our staff developed with indigenous community members and organizations. We also aim to recognize and respect Indigenous people’s traditional and living knowledge in all aspects of health.

Joyce, we remember you; you did not die in vain. We will continue to fight to overcome prejudice and combat injustice. We call on everyone to participate in this movement for justice and equity. To this end, we invite all of you to make a personal commitment to support Joyce’s Principle.
